Welcome friends!

Welcome to Math with Markers!

My name is Alexandra and throughout this blog, I will be sharing some insight into fun math games that can be used in the classroom, as well as math games that can be played at home with your children to strengthen their math understanding and abilities.

You may be wondering why I chose the title Math with Markers. All my life I did math with a pencil and eraser, as I'm sure you did too, and if I was feeling risky enough, a pen. But I thought to myself, would math not be more fun and exciting if there was some colour to it? Children love colouring, especially with markers as the colour is brighter and bolder. And I have seen the benefits of using multiple colours to remember mathematical formulas and procedures. Therefore, I hope that when you see this title, Math with Markers, it challenges you to be more creative with your math teaching by using more innovative tools, whether it be with colours or other technologies, so your students can be successful in math. The other reason why I chose this title, for those of you who know me well know, is because it is a play on my name.

Through this course (Mathematics JI), I hope to learn new techniques for teaching math, how to incorporate current technologies in a math lesson and how to turn students' fear of math into enjoyment.

Please check back frequently as I will be sharing new ideas every week!
